Spiritual Sonar
I’ve had this idea floating in my mind for nearly a year now, but back in March 2024 it really began to take shape, seemingly injected there out of the blue as I was straightening up my bedroom and then a day or so later, it came back to me like this valid idea that wanted to be “thunk”. So I thought about it vaguely in my head until I could sit and write it down to see what came of it. And did things come of it!
Here’s the idea…
What if humans, or perhaps any physical beings, emit a particular frequency or output of energy in the spiritual plane that can be observed by spiritual beings (powers or forces)and then acted upon by them? Just like a ship or whale would “ping” on a sonar screen, a human’s spiritual energy would register on a spiritual radar.
Some other questions that beg to follow would be as follows. What if people who live in and under a constant state of fear and/or shame create a disturbance in the spiritual realm, a distress signal so to speak that attracts the very spirits that feed off and perpetuate such people and their pain? Like sharks drown to the commotion and scent of a kill in distress, do these people become the fuel for the spirits of evil and darkness?
I then began to think how could this even be possible, but I considered that electromagnetic pulses or frequencies are unique to every being with energy. So why wouldn’t this phenomena be accessible in the energy realm, aka the spiritual realm?
The greater question would be of course, are the two realms as separate as we believe them to be or are they the interwoven connected sides of the same going? The two realms being, heaven and earth, the material and immaterial, physical and spiritual. Do they both obey the same laws of God? The same physical laws? the same laws of chemistry and nature?
I’d argue that evidences of the spiritual realm are observable I out physical realm. I’ve certainly experienced the eyes of unseen onlookers watching and staring at me, following me across a room. I’ve sensed a presence in a room, heavy and formidable. I’ve known the threats that lay unspoken but ready to manifest should I step out of line. I’ve felt the cold and dark cloud that covers an area of the city, a neighborhood or a person when entering their space and feel it lift when I exit it. Those are some of the bad evidences.
But I’ve also experienced the good ones! Visions of splendor and majesty. The sensation of warmth, love and power come over my own body as the spirit of God wells up within me. The overwhelming peace and reward of hearing from the Lord a word of encouragement or insight. The dreams in the night that are still as vivd 20 years later as they were the night I saw them. The heavy and moving weight and light of the spirit meeting an expecting body of believers. Standing in the woods, by a tree, with an animal, with the wind and hearing just the notion of what it might have said could I truly listen fully. The warning within my gut at times to go, or stay, or make that call.
So, it’s obvious, anyone with a shred of awareness can observe the presence of the “other” realm, therefore, any spirit with a shred of awareness most certainly could observe the presence of our own human “footprint” in the ethereal or spiritual plane. Or perhaps, the Spirit realm isn’t ethereal at all and is just as physical as our own. only within a different dimension of space and our own “pings” of presence break through to their realm as subtly and invisibly as theirs do in ours?
I’m just now reminder of the scene in the Deathly Hallows when Hermione had placed a protective charm around the campsite and a band of snatchers is walking by. She can see them but they can’t see her. The one bad guy can however smell her. Her scent isn’t shielded by the charm and at one point when he is sniffing her out he comes within inches from her, unaware that she is standing right there even though his gut tells him she is. Perhaps the plane that separates our worlds is much like a protection charm of Hermiones, visible from one side and blocks ones sight but does in fact allow scents, sounds and feelings to pass across freely. Begs to ask if the Spirits can see us or if neither side can see the other?
This led me to ask, what would cause a physical being’s energy signal to light up on the spiritual plane? I think the answer is three fold.
Intensity. A great output of energy or emotion. The nature of a signal. Distress gets attention.
The squeaky wheel gets the oil. Perhaps someone is just incredible loud in their spirit, emotionally or verbally. This I see as a traumatic event, a moment of notable upheaval.
Consistency. Reliable and continuous output. Chronic signaling.
Maybe this person is returning to their distress repeatedly and is a “always home” so to speak. This I see as chronic illness, drama steeped relationships, life without change.
Density. Close proximity to others actively distressed.
Misery loves company, right? Negative and toxic people seems to gravitate to each other and become a smorgasbord to predators. Why do teens suffer so much? They are shoved into their peer group for hours on end at school and on buses, in servers and on discord conversations. A school of fish is easy to detect on sonar.
So who stands to benefit from these distress signals? Spiritual force of evil in the heavenly places Paul tells us in Eph 6:12. The elementals. The rulers. Powers. Unclean Spirits looking for a host. Looking for energy to steal. Looking for a slave. Why you ask? Survival, strengthening themselves, warfare?
Can the opposite be true as well? Can signals be evidence that a person isn’t in distress but rather…a beacon of light? Is the person who is aligned with Truth and unified with Christ also pinging on that plane? Are they one with it? Are they resonating at the same frequency as the highest heaven and therefore at homeostasis with the God’s realm? At peace. Vibrant.
I believe that is the eternal nature of redeemed humanity but what about now, today? Perhaps that is the reality of those of faith who were mystics and operated in power and wonders. But what about us? Christians who aren’t living the mysterion but the occasional misery, who are saying “help my unbelief”? I have to believe that the Holy Spirit helps us even in this, that as we are now in Christ and His Spirit is in us, we operate in both realms, the Spirit guarding our hearts and minds, covering us and hiding us when we do experience distress, reminding us of truth in love and always turning our wayward thoughts back unto Him, having turned our darkness into light, our distress into praise. Filling us so there is room for none other. And when that day comes at last and our own spirit will resonate on His vibration that we can cross the veil of this dimension and enter the other. Then one day receive a body, a physical being that belongs with us, and together the two, body and spirit, belong to the entire world, both realms…all realms unified in love.
