Cattle on a Thousand Hills
Many years ago, the Lord revealed an aspect of his nature to me, in the most unlikely way but still within the realm of the mundane. I love that He does that! Just a normal Sunday, driving to church very early (I served on the worship team back then and we rehearsed before services so I had to be on the road when the sun was still rising.) I was alone in the car and I was alone in my soul. Times were hard then. We had a new business that we were barely making ends meet and I was having a very hard time trusting in God’s provision.
Clear as day as I drove, I heard the Lord speak to my soul, “I own a thousand cattle on a thousand hills.” In that moment, I knew I had been placing restrictions on God’s wealth of resources. I had figured their just wasn’t enough for Him to give to us what we needed, let alone what we wanted. That blessing and even provision was a limited resource, preserved for better people that ourselves. So, I repented of that thought and worshipped Him in that moment driving down the road. He owned everything! He will never run out of resources! He can create resources as He desires!
That same morning, driving home from church I picked up an AMAZING sectional sofa off the side of the road. Rich man’s trash outside a mansion; perfect condition, no defects at all. We desperately needed a large sofa for our family room that would fit our whole family, but we simply couldn’t afford one that was the right size or shape. This sofa was perfect.
God in his intimate provision blessed us with this gift before we even asked Him. I truly believe the conversation I had with him that morning produced a change in my life and He sealed the deal with love by TANGIBLY confirming His words again. “I own a thousand cattle on a thousand hills.” He very well could have said, ‘I own a thousand sofas on a thousand mansion curbs.” He prepared a blessing for us, he met with me and prepared my heart and mind to receive it and as a result, my life was changed. Not just my temporary circumstance, but my life!
Since then, God has brought our finances through even lower depths to higher heights. He has changed our lives even more! I rejoice because at our absolute lowest point (lowest in every way, not just financial) God guarded our hearts and minds with such incredible peace that we could even give generously out of our “nothing”, knowing He would again, provide. We could look with joyful expectation toward tomorrow though we had so little today.
When we repented of our pride in thinking provision came from our own hands, and from the fear that God wouldn’t or couldn’t work out all things for our good, then we could turn toward Him be close to Him, and see the provision come pouring in!
God is so Good! What he did in me He can do in you! Put aside your old thinking, let Him reveal Himself to you and watch him TANGIBLY back it up. Listen for Him. Cry out to Him. Ask Him. He is full of compassion and abounding in steadfast love and yes, He owns it ALL. He is the one who gives, He is the one who makes wealth and blessing. Trust Him!
